Delaney

  • I think delaney did a good job teaching the class about the three R’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle. I really enjoyed her activity of putting each trash object in its acceptable bin. Her videos were very informative but I wished I saw more slides in the powerpoint. I know there were issues with the recording of her lesson but she handled the problem well and still taught the class about the importance of going green.

Gabe

  • I think Gabe did a great job teaching the class about the importance of breathing and exercise. He taught his lesson super confidently and provided the class with very important information. I enjoyed his videos on breathing exercises and really liked his breathing activity. I’ll definitely be using some of the breathing techniques he taught in class today. He did an awesome job overall.

question 1:

I think adding in the arts into typical education is a great idea.  I think the students are learning a lot and gaining a lot from learning this way.  Music helps the students to learn more and have fun with learning!  This is a great idea.  I remember in spanish class in elementary school, whenever we learned vocabulary, we learned it to a song.  I still remember all of them!

question 2:

art integration: it is an approach to teaching in which the arts leverage learning in other subject areas such as science, language arts, mathematics, and social studies.  There are three main categories in which art is implemented into the classroom: 1 arts as curriculum, 2 arts enhansed curriculum, and 3 arts integrated curriculum.  Hidden aspect -- arts as experience

Cam Marchel

After watching these two videos, my thoughts on Arts integration have drastically changed. Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which the arts leverage learning in other subject areas. It allows for students to approach learning in a unique way. The first video highlights a program that a school in New Orleans is running. The curriculum and teachers teach math, history, and reading through music and other forms of art. The arts in education can be used as a reform strategy and something that can help reach, teach, and engage student. I was a bit skeptical in the beginning, however, when I saw the results of this program, I was shocked. The attendance rates increased, the math and reading performance percentages increased as well, and the discipline problems percentage fell. This is clear evidence that Arts integration has a positive effect on young students.

In the first video the emphasize how important the arts are in the learning process. The arts can be used to help learn in a more effective way and allow students to remember new information better. In the video a student said "When I use the arts, I can focus" and that really stuck with me because the arts are not just a fun pass time. There is so much more to the arts in education and this video really show just how important it is in the classroom.

Second video: Art integration is an approach to teaching that allows students to express their understanding of a topic through an art form. Students will engage in a creative process that will connect art with the subject area that they are learning. It reminds me of the STEAM video we watched last week. It provides multiple ways for the student to understand what they have learned in class. It is a really engaging approach that is extremely beneficial to the learning process.
