Part I

WARM UP

Activity 1

Class begins with music and warm up. Students are invited to get on their feet, get away from their desks and follow the professor's muscle groups - isolation warm up.

In previous classes, we added conscious breathing at the end of the warm up,  self-affirmations,  meditation, mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

 Question 1

As we continue doing the warm up at the beginning of the class, how has the warm up affected your promptness to start class so early in the morning?  Post your answer on Discussion Board.

INTRO TO DRAWING

It is important that students have a theoretic foundation when creating their own teaching methodology. Below see the major theoretic paradigms used in education now-a days.

Article: Drawing on an Outdated Theory? by Jess Dorn

It is sometimes said that our brain consists of a left hemisphere that excels in intellectual, rational, verbal, and analytical thinking and a right hemisphere that excels in sensory discrimination and in emotional, nonverbal, and intuitive thinking. However, in the normal brain, with extensive commissural interconnections, the interaction of the two hemispheres is such that we cannot dissociate clearly their specialized functions.

Questions

2. Why do so many children have problems with drawing?

3. What is Edward's theory? Explain

4. Why is the theory more of a useful analogy at this point? Explain

Honestly, knowing that I am joining such an early class and it wont straight jump into a lecture is very motivating. I think it is extremely important to engage in these warms up each morning, even if it's not for class.

I think children may have trouble drawing because it is not emphazied enough in school. In addition, nowadays it is more common for a child to be using an Iphone or some form of technology then grabbing a pen and paper.

P.S. Attached is my self-portrait. I did not have a pencil or paper near by so i tried my best and drew it online.

A lesson plan for pre-schoolers would include teaching them on how to color within the lines.
