Collage: The Ethnosphere
Part I
WARM UP
Activity 1
Class begins with music and warm up. Students are invited to get on their feet, get away from their desks and follow the professor's muscle groups - isolation warm up.
In previous classes, we added conscious breathing at the end of the warm up, self-affirmations, meditation and mindfulness.
Question 1
The warm up takes merely 10 minutes to be completed. Do you think it is worth doing it? Why? Post your answer on Discussion Board.

Part II
INTRO TO THE ETHNOSPHERE
The class will be introduced to National Geographic's Explorer Wade Davis who teaches about what calls the ethnosphere, a word he uses to describe the imaginative contributions of humanity to the planet. He makes emphasis on people's stories. They are global resources, just like air, water, and green life. Just like the biosphere, the ethnosphere is also threatened by rampant modernization and globalization.
VIDEO
Collage is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.
Given
the materials given in class (National Geographic magazines), create a
group collage. After experiencing the activity, plan a lesson with your
group members.
ACTIVITY 2
Create a collage with whatever images you can gather at home.
Take a picture of your collage

STUDENTS' WORK
Raymond Hill
Title: "Cats and Dogs Make The World Go Round"
Synopsis: I could not find images around my home that I could put together and have it mean something to me. Instead, I decided to use a collage maker online and gather some photos of my own cat and dogs along with some other dogs and cats I found and put it all together. I enjoy the company of my cats and dogs very much. I also added some fabric and stickers to the collage to make it a bit more interesting and not the same content all around. I think animals make the lives of humans so much more enjoyable and are such great companions to have in a home.
My Lesson on Collage
The grade I am choosing to teach is Pre-School. The component is Vocabulary/Word study. The objective I am choosing is: participating in daily phonemic awareness activities such as listening and rhyming games. Lastly, the competency I am choosing is that the student demonstrates knowledge of the sounds/patterns of oral language by generating rhymes.
I call my collage "Ready to excite." I chose this name because the word thing that stuck with me when I began looking for images for my collage was the word "excite." I then selected images and words that made me happy/excited. For example, I chose an image of a dog because I love dogs and it made me smile. Additionally, I chose words like "faves" and "weekend" because they reminded me of things that made me happy/excited. I really enjoyed doing this activity because it helped me to heighten my mood because I already woke up in a pretty good mood this morning. I can see how an activity like this helps young children express their emotions, whether it be happy, sad, angry, etc.
My Lesson on Collage
For my lesson plan, I would implement this activity with first graders. The component I would focus on is personal development with the main objective of demonstrating initiative for self-expression. Additionally, the competency I would look for is that the student can show respect for fellow classmates and their work through cooperative interaction.

This is my collage, which is named animals are our friends. I have seen many news about how bad conditions animals have or animals are engangereding because of human activities. I realize that we should protect some animals and treat them as friends. Do not let them disappear on earth.
My Lesson on Collage
I would like to teach 3rd grade. The component that i will work is Studio Skills. The objective I use is "Draws upon real life and imagination as sources for subjects and themes in own art work." The competency I would like to focus on is "The students will use the best work per grading to create their own portfolio."

RA Pandemic
I choose to call my piece this because I am currently an RA ( resident assistant) living with the freshman here at the U. Every day it is stressed in me to spit out the same information to residents about corona like a robot. It is a glimpse of my brain on a daily basis. I am not from Milwaukee ( I'm from the city of Chicago), but it was one of my favorite places to visit when I went back home, but I couldn't this time because of the pandemic. Also my new home here in Miami, I haven't been able to explore it as much because of covid. I haven't been able to travel much because of covid ( NESW compass). I have struggled to make a home for my residents because I myself have a lack of energy and sleep with these changing times. I am very social, but now I have to keep a space between people, so much so that it's virtual. I don't get the same connection.
My Lesson on Collage
For my grade level I would choose to teach kindergarten students about their personal development. I want to show them that they have so much creative potential that art can be used in a greater lens than just an art class! Baking soda and vinegar volcano reaction to explain chemical reactions as well as volcanos, dressing up as historical figures and reenacting who they are. All these ways include the creativity of the arts without a simple lecture, but also accounts for their involvement.
